“doorway to Autumn”

Windows and Doors collection

We are entering an exciting season!  We are at the doorway of Fall and the holiday season. My celebration of this welcome seasonal change is embodied in this piece from the Windows and Doors collection titled "doorway to Autumn".  It spotlights the three colors that define Autumn for me: vermilion, pumpkin, and chartreuse. Until it goes to its new home, I am enjoying every inch and texture of this piece as it brightens up my office studio. For an opportunity to see it in person or virtually, reach out to me for a private viewing.

Destigmatizing Autism:

Many of you know my story and experience with Autism; for my family and me personally.  I have been approached by so many individuals and families affected by Autism with the same best kept secret: Autistic individuals should be seen for their talents and exceptional gifts!

My mission is to destigmatize Autism by spreading this message through my art.  We want the world to see gifts and talents when they think "autism" and not the opposite.  Let's uncover and spotlight the gifts of those on the Autism Spectrum to the benefit of society.  Take Jewel for instance.....

October Spotlight

Jewel’s family and friends can always count on her sweet character and inventive illustrations.

Jewel is adventurous.  She wants to try so many new things.  She recently tried paddle boarding.  When she wants to try something new, she puts her mind to it and is fearless.

Jewel has an ear for music.  She likes to tinker around on the piano.  She loves to sound out familiar melodies and add in chords to accompany.  She also loves to sing and does that throughout the day.

Jewel is full of knowledge.  She loves watching videos and reading books about animals, science and nature.  She teaches her family all kinds of things.  It amazes them how much she retains.  Her loved ones say of her, "She doesn’t hold back in correcting others when their facts aren’t right!".

Jewel is optimistic.  She possesses enduring positivity especially in the arena of her challenges.  When she has difficulty focusing, she'll announce whimsically, "I need to go to La-La Land so that I can get more ideas for my drawings". Indeed she does!  Jewel has been making custom greeting cards and illustrations for years.  Imagine where that gift and creativity will lead her by the time she enters adulthood and the workforce.

Jewel is an advocate. She is vocal about how she processes things; boldly educating those around her.  If someone makes a noise too loud for her, she will matter-of-factly share with them that she is "very sensitive to loud noises because she has Autism".

Jewel's parents "could not be more proud and feel undeserving to have such a sweet, adventurous, and gifted girl".

Jewel, age 12, lives with her parents and older brother in Saratoga Springs, New York.  She was diagnosed with Mild to Moderate Autism with Developmental Delay at age 4 .
